Here are the January 2013 Simm Awards for SB900!
Post Of The Month
Difference Of Opinion - LCDR Patrick Leroy, LCDR Kh'ali
In this post, Patrick and Kh'ali come face to face with the stresses of a relationship in the face of danger in the line of duty. What happens when one is willing to volunteer for a hazardous mission and the other wants to protect them? It results in a a serious difference of opinion and the willingness to compromise to reach an agreement that is acceptable to both, despite personal cost. For Patrick and Kh'ali, he was willing to compromise, and she only wanted to know that he say her point of view. In the end, a surprise life-changing development altered the decision for both of them.
Character Development - Seyla & MCPO Nick Marcinko
We have two recipients this month for this award - Seyla the resident madam on SB900, and Master Chief Petty Officer Nick Marcinko.
Seyla began life as just a name, then morphed into a very occasional NPC bent on making Jackson's life hell. She became part of Suresh's organization, and over the past year has turned into far more than an occasional character. She's now involved as part of the underworld of the station, and a sometimes informant for Security through her association with Darwin and her unique 'friendship' with the station's CMO. She treads a fine line that could bring her danger should she run afoul of Suresh. And yes, she still loves to do her best to annoy Jackson.
Master Chief Petty Officer Nick Marcinko has been something of a revelation. He's always been the station's bad boy of Intel, uninhibited, smart-mouthed, blunt as a sledgehammer, but fearless in the line of duty. His recent acceptance of his feelings for Nenita revealed facets of Nick that had never before been seen and we learned he had a tender side. Their relationship was sorely tested when she underwent her change to become Leto and later went undercover with the Prime Minister's aide. We learned then that the man of steel did, in fact, have a breaking point. We cannot wait to see where he goes next. IN the words of Dario: "For showing an _endurance_ going well above and beyond Call of Duty... ...regarding Leto ;-) (I would have taken a phaser and dried up mr. Veist bodily fluids. All of them...) "
Newcomer Award - Lt. Itsuki Ito & Ensign Torven Rosh
We love having new members join the sim, and especially when they hit the ground running as these two have done. Ito arrived to find herself headed for an alternate dimension, and Torven arrived to find himself suddenly investigating the station's Prosecutor and the possibility of far-reaching corruption. Way to go!
Plot Development Ribbon - Dario (Lt. Commander Patrick Leroy, Ensign Aleksandra Levkova, Eldren Tohr, Speaker Zee'Hrai, various others)
Sims are nothing without great plots and 900 has a wealth of great plotters. This month, we'd like to recognize Dario. He has an amazing wealth of technical information all stashed in his head and a seemingly unending ability to come up with plot twists that cab even surprise us! No matter what storyline is running, he always manages to add just the things to round it out, add to it, and make it even better. Well done!
Antagonist Award
In the world of the Federation it sometimes seems like everything is always wine and roses, that the people who dwell in that universe are in a wonderland where all their hopes and dreams can come true. Well, that's all well and good but stories like that suck--at least to me they do. And to be the yin to that particular yang you need a great antagonist. This month, that great antagonist, is Suresh. He is the current criminal mastermind-slash-puppet master on SB900 and does one hell of a job with it. Of course, his most recent foray into the criminal side got him stuck in an alternate universe with no real idea if he, or anyone else that went with him, would make it back. He has a one track mind and knows what, or who, he wants and will stop at nothing to obtain it...or her. Congratulations to Peach for creating such a wonderfully evil character and bringing him into our group!
Drama Award
This month's Drama Award, I believe, is really a no-brainer. Since the murder of Chance Conradi, we have had some amazing posts dealing with the fallout, especially from Eli, Chance's boyfriend, Dr. Harding, one of only a few who could potentially give Chance a return to the living via the latter's Vulcan physiology, and last but not least...the Hazari who murdered Chance in the first place. If you haven't been paying attention, we all found out that Chance is part Vulcan and when he was dying the only person close enough for him to touch was the Hazari, his murderer. Just like Spock did to Dr. McCoy, Chance's essence went into the Hazari leaving him a little "off", especially when it came to dealing with the sight, and thought, of Eli. A man who was once a cold-blooded killer now couldn't explain why he was saying that he was in love with the little Enaran cadet. All of the posts surrounding this have been great and very much worth the read, and even more deserving of the Drama Award this month. Congratulations to Eli, the Hazari and Dr. Harding!
Service Accommodation Award
We finally have a Service Accommodation award! And this month it goes to Andrew, writing Sakkath, and Tracy, writing Oz. Sure, if you look on the Chain of Command link on the roster page you'll see that both CMDR Sakkath and LCDR Zeferino are pretty high up there, but what characters, or what writers, ever imagine that both the CO and the XO will just suddenly disappear, leaving everything to the second officer and the next in line? The characters, and their writers, took it in stride while one dealt with the fact that his wife was one of the missing and the other still reeling from the loss of her brother. They both went above and beyond the normal duties and have done excellent work keeping the station running (IC) and writing exciting posts (OOC). Congratulations to Andrew and Tracy!
And that's it! Congratulations to everyone!
