June 2015 Awards!

Posted on Wed Jul 8th, 2015 @ 2:01am by Admiral Ricky Wegener

We only received two award nominations for the month of June, but Peach and I have added more to the list and are happy with what we’ve come up with.

Post of the Month - "There's No Place Like Home"
Cmdr. Zeferino, Lt. Darwin, Capt. Hawke, Cmdr. Sakkath, Jackson Banning, Suresh, Lazan

The homecoming of the quartet sent to retrieve evil Suresh after his escape from Elba II was a great end to an amazing story. Not only did we actually manage a somewhat-happy ending, albeit marred with some scrapes and incarcerations, we got to see some very happy reunions in the docking bay. Oh, and the one not-so-happy reunion of Lazan with noveau-Suresh and Darwin.

Medal of the Rose
PO2 Drusilla Dupree & Nicolao

It has been a whirlwind romance for Drusilla and Nico. Since he came to 900 as a patient under Lt. Cmdr. Robin Swift, Dru has been as involved with his counseling as the Counselor. And now, after they seemed to form a bond that grew and blossomed, they decided not only to make their relationship official, they furthered it by getting married! I think it has been very enjoyable seeing their interactions progress from the professional to the very personal and can't wait to see where this relationship goes next.

Comedy Award - "Hope Down Under"
Lt. Beckman, Adm Wegener, Adm Hawke

Only recently have we begun seeing more of Lt. Hope Beckman in the storyline as more of a developing character and less of just a filler or background character. This post in particular set the stage for that as she was tasked with 'babysitting' Admiral Wegener under orders of his fiancee. Maybe it's because she's so dedicated to her work or she's just never been the kind to partake, but while out with Admirals Hawke and Wegener, Hope had a bit more to drink than she bargained for and gave us a good chuckle.

Drama Award
Cmdr. Zeferino, Lt. Darwin, Capt. Hawke, Suresh

The Drama Award for June goes to Peach and Tracy for writing Capt. Hawke, Cmdr. Zeferino, Lt. Darwin and good guy Suresh's string of posts outlining the pursuit, and defeat, of evil Suresh after his escape from Elba II. It had mystery, it had intrigue, it had action! The plot was definitely a good read and one that made you not want to wait for the next installment to find out what would happen.

Character Development - "A Surprising Cease Fire"

Adm Wegener, Adm Hawke

As many of you may know, Admiral Hawke's ex-wife, Marianna, has never thought fondly of Wegener, or vice-versa. They both have a bit of mutual respect for each other over their care for Li, but that's where the line had always been drawn. Now that Marianna has finally moved on and met someone else, and after so many years of she and Rick always spitting acid at each other, they finally managed a cease fire with congratulations all around for both Rick and Marianna's betrothals. I think Lucius almost fell out of his seat when this happened, but it's been a long time coming.

Character Development - Lt. Darwin

Darwin has developed some fascinating facets to his personality over the past couple of storylines. We've seen him on the hunt for the old Suresh and learning to overcome his ingrained prejudice of the new Suresh and now we see yet another side to the big tough guy as he plays watchdog for Reva, a young and impetuous ensign. He's done it all with both courage, ingenuity, and humor.

Character Development - Seyla

For the several posts with Dr. Harding. Making the step from 'Soiled Dove' of the Frontier to just 'Dove' deserves great attention and, even if this nomination is given with some reserve (for one never knows... as the saying goes "old habits die hard" ;-) ), at the moment this is a big effort into a positive change Seyla's taking. For sure many a guy on SB900 will mourn the "loss" of the local Madame. [And probably pray for her return :-P]

IC - Meritorious Service Medal
Cmdr. Zeferino, Lt. Darwin, Capt. Hawke

"Awarded to members of Starfleet who distinguished themselves by outstanding non-combat meritorious achievement or service to the Federation." Awarded to Captain Hawke, Commander Zeferino and Lt. Darwin for their pursuit and recovery of the fugitive Suresh, escapee from Elba II.

IC - Superior Civilian Service Award
Suresh

"Awarded to civilians rendering assistance to any member of Starfleet or the Federation. This is the highest civilian award given by Starfleet for actions by a civilian." For his actions in assisting Starfleet personnel in their pursuit and recovery of the fugitive Suresh, escapee from Elba II. (And I bet it's gonna' be real confusing to Starfleet Command when they get this -- Suresh catching Suresh and then getting an award for it?)

Honorable Mention - "Coming to Terms"

The post "Coming to Terms" has a special spot for June. It gets an honorable mention since none of the PCs or NPCs were actually in the post, but it is a big step for Eli's parents. They are dealing with so much on Enara Prime and now getting to see their son again, but finding out he's dating a human male instead of, as they likely prefer, an Enaran female. We've read so many posts about how his parents would have issue with his relationship, but in this post we see that they are willing to keep an open mind and do what they can to make him happy instead of pushing their desires upon him.

And there we have it! Please don't forget to submit award nominations for July before the 31st. If you read something that strikes you as award-worthy, check out the list at http://www.starbase900.info/index.php/sim/awards and find something that would fit. Then, nominate that post or the authors!

Congratulations to all!
