July 2015 Awards!
Posted on Sat Aug 1st, 2015 @ 4:48pm by Captain Li Hawke
We are happy to announce the July 2015 awards for Starbase 900! I’m glad that we had a few nominations this month (I’d like to see more next month!) and both Peach and I added several of our own. As usual, we included the text from the nomination as it was sent in. I want to stress to you all that we welcome nominations for any of the awards listed on the site, but please read the description of the award to help choose the best one.
And away we go!
Post of the Month: “Discoveries - Good & Bad”
Ensign Six of Nine, Lt. Tess Rutheridge
For the post: "Discoveries - Good & Bad"
Six and Tess' face off has the quality of high drama to me. Six is being put in that difficult position of making a tough decision, torn between two worlds (in fact completely opposing worlds) and deal with consequences. While Tess is taking on the 'Reason' part Six gets the 'Heart' one. And, even if not everything is as it may seem, in following posts we come to see that Heart is bound to win over everything in the end (as is expected in a good story) even when this is making you isolated, out of supply and taking fire from all sides (to use a bit of military jargon).
Whose Line is it Anyway
Lt. Tess Rutheridge
This is really for Tess Rutheridge, for giving a glimpse of what Commander Leroy's subjects are thinking of him... ;-) “For I know many things of Commander Leroy and, albeit he’s somewhat changed from his trip to Ialnalyn region, there is one thing about him I’m still fairly sure of. You don’t mess with the uniform. It’s Starfleet. It’s woven in ideals… Damn... I think the man was born with that uniform, grafted to his skin the very first day of his life.”
Whose Line is it Anyway
Lt. Michael Darwin
In the post "Game, Set & Match", but not for the entire post... Just a couple of lines he said: "But, anyway, the whole thing with Suresh dating Ensign Six of Ten? That has the potential to be a problem for us. She's told a few people that Suresh is the new one and is a super sweet, awesome, kitten-loving, non-violent, puppy-hugging all-around-good guy." To me is the kind of ironic and/or cynical view of some facts of life (like love) that I find amusing in movies and books. I made the mistake of reading this one in the office causing a burst of laughter which brought enquiries from curious colleagues. Enquiries which, of course, I could not satisfy leaving them puzzled to this day.
Antagonist Award
Seyla
Scheming and deceitful, her star seems to be on the rise after the 'vacancy' left by Suresh (the original). With her ability to manipulate people and the skills that make her generally have her way (especially with males) in my opinion she's quite fitting the role. It is the second time I'm naming Seyla for award and people will surely start thinking I'm being partial to her character, well... I am. ;-)
Character Development
Lt. Hope Beckman
This month we saw a dramatic change in the life of Lt. Hope Beckman - the death of her parents. Hope began life as an occasional name in Admiral Wegener’s posts and slowly took on a life of her own. She has long since left the world of the NPCs behind and become an enjoyable, complex, and often humourous character in her own right. This change in her life marks a new beginning for Hope as we see her life and career continue to develop.
Meritorious Service - OOC
Major David Lorenz
Having transferred Lorenz to the marines recently, Shawn has done excellent work with bringing the marines on 900 to life. He has written marines in the past and has always had a knack for writing them very well. We appreciate the work he has done and hope to see more out of our marines in the future.
Departmental Service Ribbon - Science
Lt. Cmdr. Robin Swift
Now that Robin’s off on vacation we can talk about him! This departmental service ribbon is for excellence in the field and the Counselor certainly qualifies. We’ve seen a great expansion of Robin’s role on the station, especially since the arrival of his problem patient Nico. The journey to put Nico back together and return him to duty has been amusing, intense, and harrowing by turns and serves to demonstrate just how good our dear Counselor really is.
Departmental Service Ribbon - Service
Lt. Michael Darwin
When Commander Zeferino passed Lt. Darwin a padd containing orders to be the coordinator of the new operation in the Cherry Pit, he certainly got more than he bargained for. He’s now dealing with a wayward Ensign Madhava; a new version of Suresh posing as the old to maintain the status quo; a Borg, Ensign Six of Ten, who is undercover and supposedly resigned from the Fleet; a Madame who is only somewhat on the straight and narrow; and two contacts from Intel, one of whom seems intent on either thrilling him or breaking him in half. Through it all, he’s maintained his control (mostly) and his sense of humour (generally) and proven that he’s worthy of Oz’s faith in his abilities.
Purple Heart - IC
Ensign Reva Madhava
Dancing With Demons - Part II Post - "Little Ensign Madhava," a voice sneered behind her.... - Well... I know it's not war or an armed mission in service of Starfleet... But I thought that being ruined like that (and with a spanner no less) and being a victim of a cabal deserved some kind of recognition.
Drama Award
The Enara Prime Series: Lt. Eric Edwards, Cadets Junior Grade Eli Ziyad and Chance Conradi, Ignatius J. Reilly
This has been a story with one plot twist after another, and a story almost two years in the making, going back to Eli’s initial flight from his home planet and arrival at 900 as a refugee. Just when it seemed that Enara Prime had opened its arms to welcome him back and forgive all, the story has taken a sinister turn, complete with betrayals, changes of heart, and plenty of action. We still don’t know how it will turn out for the group, but it’s been quite a ride so far.
And that’s the award list for July. Congratulations to everyone receiving awards and keep up the good work!
