November 2012 Awards!
Posted on Thu Nov 29th, 2012 @ 9:48pm by Admiral Ricky Wegener
Hello, all, and welcome to November's awards announcement! You may notice that we're doing these a bit earlier this month, and that we didn't ask for nominations this time. The reason for this is that I, personally, wanted the awards to be given out closer to the first of the month, not midway through. If we had waited for nominations, giving everyone enough time to check email and make the nominations, it would have taken quite a while. So this month I "decreed" that Peach and I would make the decisions, but for December we'll be going back to the nomination route.
So let's get this party started!!!
OUT OF CHARACTER AWARDS
Post of the Month
This month it was very difficult to choose ONE post that could be considered the POTM for 900. We've had so much go on, new characters joining and throwing their hats in the ring, characters dying or disappearing...it wasn't easy to choose. But the final decision was made for:
RED ALERT posted on Monday, November 5th, 2012 by the following personnel:
Ensign Kai Sarkozi (Peach)
Commander Sakkath (Andrew)
Lt. Commander Oralia Zeferino (Tracy)
Lt. Commander Patrick Leroy (Dario)
Lieutenant Hope Beckman (Scott B.)
Congrats to all involved in that great post! It really showed the shock and a bit of confusion to the involved characters in a situation where your base CO, XO and a criminal just vanished from said CO's office.
Character Development Ribbon
I know that I have noticed quite a bit of change in one of our characters on the base, and it was a no-brainer for this award when Peach felt the same way. This character has had to overcome some major issues recently and, in the current setting, has had to both rise to the occasion and deal with the possible loss of a loved one. But the whole time he has shown that even a stoic, green-blooded Vulcan can have compassion and is made up of many more complex emotions than they will show on the outside.
This month, the "CDR" is given to Commander Sakkath (written by Andrew).
Most notable were the posts "Proxies" and "Understanding Condolences". If you have not read them, please be sure that you do.
Drama Award
November seems to have been more of a dark month in the world of Starbase 900. We had quite a few writers that sent some truly moving posts, some with grit, some that made you want to tear up and some that contained some serious surprises. Because of that, we have multiple awards this month! They are as follows...
- For the Nexus Attack that resulted in the death of Cadet Freshman Grade Chance Conradi, and all subsequent posts dealing with that death, the Drama Award is given to the writers of:
Cadet Freshman Grade Eli Ziyad (Peach)
Cadet Freshman Grade Chance Conradi (Tracy)
Jackson Banning V (Peach)
Lieutenant Commander Oralia Zeferino (Tracy)
Cassidy Wilde (B.J.)
Janice Gree (Tracy)
Lieutenant Eric Edwards (Andrew)
Lieutenant Commander William Harding M.D. (Peach)
Lieutenant Commander Terrell Kona (Ron)
I believe I can speak for just about everyone that reading of the death of Cadet Chance Conradi was a real shocker! Not only because of the method in which he was murdered but because of the emotional fallout to come from it. Despite his only being a P-NPC, and a relatively minor character since he was a “mere cadet”, he was involved with quite a few characters on the base and his death was felt from the Command & Control center all the way down to characters that rarely get past the seedier areas of the Cherry Pit. These posts were very moving and definitely worthy of this award.
CO's Note: Now remember, gentle reader, these are OOC awards. And while it looks like several of our users will be given the award multiple times, they are, in fact, only getting it once. Since there is no way to give OOC awards only to the writers themselves and have it reflected on the Nova site, we have to give the awards to the characters that were in the posts. So don't look at this as a bad thing. Thanks. :-)
- For Anger Management Required, the Drama Award is given to the writers of:
Vice Admiral Ricky Wegener (Scott B.)
Suresh (Peach)
Commander Li Hawke (Peach)
Honestly, I truly hate allowing myself to be given any awards. I'd much rather the other writers of the simm that I'm running get the awards because I'm just happy that each of you are willing to spend your free time writing with me. But, Peach and I both thought that the interaction between Wegener and Suresh in this post was well worth receiving the Drama Award. They are, essentially, mortal enemies. They both hold the same person near and dear to their hearts, but in different ways, and would do absolutely anything for her. They then find themselves in a very strange situation where they need to work together but are having a momentous time getting past how much they hate each other. Kind of fun to read about, right? lol
- For The Door That Would Not Open, the Drama Award is given to the writer of:
Lieutenant Commander Patrick Leroy (Dario)
For this one I told Peach that I really wished we'd had something called a "Cliffhanger Award" for 900 (which may very well be coming soon!), because this one NAILED the cliffhanger! Dario's writing of Leroy's attempts at finding a way to help Rick and Li (who cares about Suresh, I mean, really??) get back to their own reality winds up bringing a woman that Leroy's alternate version is obviously in a relationship with and in a BIG way. Little Faye running to him saying "Daddy!" was absolutely wonderful! Great job, Dario! I loved it. :)
Innovative Service
This month Peach and I decided that we wanted to bestow the Innovative Service award to none other than Tracy, the writer for Ignatius J. Reilly-Zeferino, the Goliath Tarantula who has grown, in more ways than one, since she came into being. I have to start by saying that Tracy began writing Iggy back on the USS Berkeley simm that I ran before we all jumped ship, as it were, and moved over to SB900. To put that into a timeline perspective, SB900 has been running for 1 year, 6 months, a few weeks, etc--that's a long time!! When she started, Iggy was just another pet spider but when she came into contact with that crazy crystal, things changed drastically for her. Not only has Iggster grown in size, which may just be something that her breed of spider does, but she has also grown in leaps and bounds in her knowledge of the "bipedal" world that she has to survive in. She's gotten drunk with Wegener, learned to curse from Weg--er, forget those two examples. He's been a bad influence! Anyway, she's learned quite a bit, experienced even more and has gained maturity to the point that she's up for being considered a sentient being within the Federation. With the most recent posts she's found herself trying to console her former owner-turned-family member, Oz, due to the death of Chance and has wound up in a bit of a sticky situation. Peach and I both believe, without a doubt, that Tracy has hit the nail on the head with the Innovative Service award in her writing and development of Iggy.
Congratulations, Tracy!
And last but not least for the OOC awards...
Mission Completion Award
With the mission "Sections of the Delta Quadrant" having just ended (uh, like, a few hours ago...lol!), we have started our new mission "The Struggle Within", meaning that we have some awards to give out. Many of you were with us for the majority of "Sections" but you had to have been with us for the entire mission to be given the award. I am truly sorry that I cannot give the award to everyone that was involved, but the Mission Completion Awards are for starting and ending the most recent mission.
Those recipients are...
Second Mission Completion
Vice Admiral Ricky Wegener (Scott B.)
Commander Li Hawke (Peach)
Lieutenant Commander Oralia Zeferino (Tracy)
Commander Sakkath (Andrew)
Lieutenant Commander Patrick Leroy (Dario)
Brigadier Akima (Glenease)
First Mission Completion
Lieutenant Patrick Smith (Andy--not "Andrew"...that's some other guy. *grin* )
Lieutenant Commander Kit'rin'e (Steve)
Our many, many thanks to all of you who are receiving these awards. It means quite a bit to me, personally, that you would invest so much time in this simm. Thank you and thank you to every writer on SB900! I know that it won't be long that each of you will be listed in one of these announcements soon.
IN CHARACTER AWARDS
We only have one IC award this month. I'm sure you know exactly which character it goes to:
Cadet Freshman Grade Chance Conradi is awarded the Purple Heart, in accordance with official Starfleet regulations: The Purple Heart is a decoration awarded in the name of the Federation President to those who have been severely wounded or killed while serving in Starfleet.
R.I.P. Cadet Conradi
And that's it for November! But I do have one last thing I would like to put out to each of you. We are seriously looking for more expanded awards, both IC and OOC, to be given out. My focus is primarily on OOC awards for the writers but if you have suggestions for either I will consider them all. We have a decent stable of OOC awards now but it seems that we've been a bit restricted in the past few months with the "same ol', same ol'". So, please, feel free to submit your ideas to either myself, or Peach, either via PM or email.
Thank you all!
Regards,
Scott B.
