September 2015 Awards

Posted on Wed Oct 7th, 2015 @ 1:35am by Admiral Ricky Wegener

I'm just going to jump right into the awards:

Post Of The Month: Retribution
Ensign Reva Madhava, Lt. Riley Sukotav, Lt. Raj Amani, Robart, Desta

Sometimes the most compelling stories can be the most haunting. This month’s Post of the Month is just such a post. We’ve followed Reva’s harrowing experiences, and Riley’s as well. Here, finally, they both get some justice - Riley becomes the hero and Reva is rescued, along with Desta, another victim of Fisher’s operation. They all still have a long road to recovery ahead of them but we finally got the chance to see Fisher get what he deserved. Well done!
Character Development Ribbon - OOC: Lt. Hope Beckman, Lt. Raj Amani, Lt. Riley Sukotav

This month’s Character development Ribbons are given to three characters who have definitely moved out of the background and into the spotlight. All three have faced tragic circumstances as well as some bright lights along the way as well. For Hope, it was the loss of her parents and her newfound friendship with El’Shar Blackhorse; for Raj, it was discovering the hell that was Fisher’s ship and becoming one of the heroes; and for Riley, it was his unwitting part in the near-death of his closest friend, almost losing the woman he loved, and finally, being the one to avenge all the wrongs done to Reva by Fisher. What an incredible month it has been for these three characters!

Medal of the Rose - OOC: Suresh & Ensign Six of Ten

When Six and Suresh met, no one would have predicted the direction their relationship would take. When they became involved, no one seemed to approve and they definitely didn’t understand. Many tried to change her mind (we’re looking at you, Tess!). Even now, most don’t know the true depth of their union, or the real story behind Six’s apparent departure from the Fleet to be with the man she loves. Sometimes, you have to do what you have to do and they are determined to make it work, despite the difficulties they face.

Comedy Award - OOC: A Whirlygig Doesn’t Stand A Chance: Lt. Commander Earl Crane, Lt. Solis, Lt. Isi Nighthawk, SCPO Tammy Olson, Dr. Julian Crane

In this post, we meet Tammy, the Chief Nurse of Valhalla Colony and a large Betazoid cat named Elvis, who belongs to Lt. Commander Antos Lev. Meet is putting it mildly, as Tammy sweeps Julian, the three doctors, the cat and herself through 900 like a cyclone. Let’s hope that the Valhalla construction crew did a solid job - the colony has to withstand her energy, as do Isi and Julian. And don’t worry, Elvis doesn’t really eat petty officers...all that often. :)

Drama Award - OOC: Consequences (In Three Parts) - Reva, Desta

Thanks to one obsessive Betazoid, who lost his mind over an Enaran, one Orion was drugged, kidnapped, and carried off on the slave ship of a man named Fisher, who deals in exotic ‘goods’. This post series takes us deep inside Fisher’s operation, where we learn just what life is like when he makes a deal and finds just what his buyer is looking for. We watched as Reva dealt with a man with no morals, no limits and no compassion - who saw her merely as entertainment until he delivered her and got paid. We also meet Desta, another of his victims who has lived in his world a long time. Even in such a horrible situation, the two women take a stand and ultimately made it possible for Robart’s ship to catch up so they could be rescued. This post was the turning point in a frightening and fascinating storyline. Congratulations!

Courage Under Fire - OOC: Qo’nos Part II

Probably the least likely to be a fighting duo, Nick and Aros made quite a team in defending D’Veidh as well as Kh’ali’s home against multiple attackers. Outnumbered and not only worried about their safety but also that of an infant child, Nick and Aros had to make the best of a rotten situation to come out alive. There were a few comedic moments but the action was fast-paced and realistic (for a totally fictional story based on a completely fictional television and movie franchise!).

Plot Development - OOC: Tracy - The Tempting Reva Storyline; Dario - Qo’nos storyline

This month saw two wonderful and complex storylines launch that have made us laugh, scared us, sometimes horrified us, and always kept us wanting more. To Tracy - who dreamed up the Tempting Reva storyline one day when she said: “What if Fisher actually got her?”; and to Dario for the Qo’nos storyline - who one day messaged me and said “You know, I’ve been thinking that Kh’ali’s life is too easy.” The rest, as they say, is history.

Whose Line Is It Anyway? - OOC:

““You have just cost me in ways you can’t even fathom,” she growled at him, advancing till she was in his personal space. As he backed up, she followed him. “I should take you to Archadia with me. There, they still allow public lashings.”

“Ah...?” His brows went up even as other parts shriveled with fear. “What... what have I done to be on your bad side?” - Seyla & Marcus, Betrayal

Desta nodded. “I do not mind. I know how much he means to you. It’s wonderful waking up with someone you know cares for you and means you no harm. And I promise I won’t be any trouble.”

Raj rubbed his forehead, slightly embarrassed, as he looked back at Reva.

Grinning, Reva winked at Raj. "It is. If - when you have someone stay over, Desta, it won't be a problem. Raj, I guess we'll see more of you?"

Raj’s eyes widened at the question and Riley choked back a laugh.

“I’ll make waffles," Riley offered. - Desta, Lt. Raj Amani, Ensign Reva Madhava, Lt. Riley SukotavWaffle Plans

“Fuck this.” Niro moved to the bed, lifted Mamu as if she weighed nothing and slung her over his shoulder. “I’ve had enough.” He carried her out of his bedroom, then out into the corridor and started for the hatch that opened off the rear of this deck. “You’ll see Fal when I decide you’ll see her,” he growled. The little woman screamed the whole way and used her staff to flail at him. "You vile...!", she berated him in various languages. "File a report with Security, I will!" She kept up her tirade, even as he dumped her into the hatch and opened it, dropping her to the Station's decking. “Really? I’ll tell them you were harassing me on my own ship and I tossed you. Run away, troll. I have your girl waiting and there’s not one damn thing you can do about it.” He slammed the hatch shut behind her. - Niro & Mamu B’yaga, Tempest

* * *

The writing in this log is simply stunning, particularly this paragraph (to quote Tracy):

All seemed fairly mundane (a rare, but welcome occurrence) until Sakkath made his way to the decision not to prosecute Lieutenant Sukotav and his subsequent release from the brig. The Vulcan’s first thought was of Suresh, and what the operation below might now require of him. Retaliation was certainly going to be expected, the Vulcan knew, but his responsibility for the crew drove his next thoughts to Riley himself. Following his abduction, the issues with Ensign Madhava, and now his faultless attempt on Ensign Six’s life, Sakkath had to wonder just what sort of island the Betazoid Lieutenant felt marooned on. - Commander Sakkath, A Little Blue Blast

* * *

"Regardless, we need to get his ass up off the deck before Kh’ali gets back and sees him like this. He is most likely to be targeted while here, well...after the baby. Can’t have him walking around the Klingon homeworld drunk as ten motherfuckers.” - Lt. Nick Marcinko, What A Party!

Departmental Service Ribbon - Science: Lt. Commander William Harding, Lt. Commander Earl Crane, Lt. Solis

When it comes to the medical sciences, Starbase 900 has a trifecta for superb doctors. Recently we have seen several opportunities for Harding, Crane and Solis to do the heavy lifting when it came to saving someone’s life. The writers have taken the time to create something in this writing that is both technical and suspenseful, showcasing what their characters “know” how to do. So, this month the Departmental Service Ribbon for Science goes to LCDR’s Harding and Crane as well as Lt. Solis.

Honorable Mention

The “We All Share A Brain” Award: To Rick, Li and Oz...for Rendezvous, a monster post with ten characters. They managed to write a coherent post, keep the people straight and the characters distinct without losing their minds (we think).

***

Brothers Antonio & Spencer - A great line from two increasingly sinister NPC’s:

Antonio finished off the last dumpling but skipped the sake. He rose and led the way from Lao’s, moving past Julian and Ophelia. As they passed, he murmured some mumbo-jumbo that sounded like a blessing. It was mainly for Spencer’s sake - one last view of the cleavage he couldn’t have. Deep within his hood, Antonio laughed softly as they stepped outside.

"Ass," Spencer breathed the insult at Antonio as they walked to a nearby console.
~Crossing Over

Quite a few awards this month but I'm sad to say that we only had a few nominations. Many of the above were chosen by Peach and I. It would be very helpful if all of you could help us with these each month from your suggestion on the Post of the Month to even some in-character awards/ribbons for bravery, purple hearts, etc.

As always, we thank you all for your great stories and hope to keep seeing more of them!
