Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Nicolao, when on the job, appears no-nonsense and supremely focused. Thanks to years undercover, he is extremely reserved and private. It's easy to have a conversation with him and realize, only later, that he revealed nothing of himself. His one noticeable idiosyncrasy is that he doesn't like to be touched by anyone he is not close to, and those people are few and far between. Quarters: Deck 17 (With PO2 Drusilla Dupree) |

| Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths: Fearless where duty is concerned and will not hesitate to do what has to be done. He is also loyal to a fault once someone earns his trust and admiration. He is smart enough to realize when he has gotten too absorbed in the job and needs to take a break both to avoid burnout and get centered once again. He's experienced things in his life that would (and has) given other people nightmares. His telepathic abilities are extensive, including his ability to implant memories, and used in the field when necessary, but he keeps a tight rein on them otherwise. Weaknesses: He can be extremely unemotional at times due to his background and this can make him seem remote. He has so far avoided deep emotional entanglements as they can be distracting and therefore dangerous in the line of duty. This can be helpful undercover, but can also make for a very hard life otherwise. |

| Hobbies & Interests | He draws extensively. It’s always been a hobby for him and the Counselor on his former ship suggested it as a means for dealing with the stresses of undercover life and the accompanying issues. He is also an avid chess player. He is fascinated by the old Terran murder mysteries, and an accomplished cook. As is typical, he practices martial arts in several styles and trains with various weapons classes to stay in shape and be prepared for fieldwork. He plays viola as well as the Ressikan flute and the Enaran musical sphere. |
| Personal History | Nicolao was born in 2359, along with his twin brother Niro, to Alexis and Xenia on Enara Prime. Despite the efforts of B’Elanna Torres and the Enaran visitors on Voyager, the widespread belief in the extermination of those known as the Regressives was only partly revealed and believed. And while the number of Regressives had diminished greatly in Nicolao’s time, some still held to those beliefs, including his mother. In 2375, when the boys were sixteen, the family was split - Niro and mother were forcibly shipped off with the Regressives while Nicolao stayed with his father in mainstream Enaran society. He entered the Enaran Military Academy that year and graduated in 2379 at age nineteen. He then spent four years working in counter-terrorism undercover for the Enaran government. In 2383, following Starfleet’s return to the Delta Quadrant and the establishment of Starbase 900, a contact made during a particularly rough assignment recruited him for an undercover group in Starfleet concerned with the Cardassians – the Obsidian Order in particular . Nicolao departed for Earth and Starfleet and was given the rank of Lieutenant Commander based on his previous experience. He spent the next four years undercover along the Demilitarized Zone, investigating a rumoured re-arming of Cardassia Prime following their recovery from the Dominion War and the re-establishment of the Demilitarized Zone. Rumours of several military bases in the DMZ colonies arose and it fell to Nicolao to discover the truth of the matter. While there, he did discover several stockpiles of arms, along with plots and plans to re-assert Cardassia’s military might. He also made many valuable contacts that would be of use later on when he needed to acquire various things that were often hard to come by. It was a harsh and difficult life, living on the fringes of society so as not to be uncovered. Nicolao was also investigating rumours that his brother had been seen, and was now apparently with a band of pirates plaguing the area. The stories of his brother’s exploits were terrible indeed, and Nicolao hoped to find the man and deal with him. Wherever Niro went, it seemed that broken bodies and minds followed in his wake. Unfortunately, a local turned out to be one of the Cardassian government’s own agents and revealed his true identity to the government. Nicolao was captured and incarcerated for three months in Elmspur Detention Center. His time there was the stuff of nightmares. Much to Nicolao’s surprise, it Niro and his crew who breached the detention center’s security and rescued him. Niro was bitterly disappointed when Nicolao refused to join then, accusing Nicolao of being brainwashed by both the Enaran government and Starfleet. He left Nicolao on Archadia III and departed, swearing that they wouldn’t meet again and if they did, it would be the end of Nicolao. After a brief layover on SB900, he returned to Starfleet Command for debriefing, and a short vacation. The assessment of the resident Counselor at Starfleet Command had some concerns regarding Nico returning to active duty in the wake of his experiences on Cardassia Prime. He was placed on medical leave, a concession of Command to avoid the ‘psychiatric leave’ label and the stigma that came with it. He requested to return to the Delta Quadrant, but under the condition that he would reside on SB900. The agreement placed him under the care of Counselor Robin Swift, who would oversee his progress and ultimately determine if and when he would return to duty. |
