Personal History Matt Collins is an engineering prodigy, born in Winston-Salem, Massachusetts to a working-class family. From an early age, Matt displayed a knack for engineering, building himself a hover-racer by the time he was eight years old. at age ten, Matt was sent to an Starfleet Corps Of Engineering satellite academy to learn the finer points of energy manipulation and propulsion. Matt stayed wit the SCE facility, eventually transferring to the Academy at age sixteen. After graduation, Collins was made a Marine officer per his request

Upon graduating the Academy, Matt was immediately assigned to the USS Moscow and quickly earned his stripes as a competent, though very young engineering officer. The Moscow was an older ship, primarily a Starfleet workhorse and Matt excelled in the challenging environment.

Matt transferred to the Sutherland and later the Iwo Jima, both late-model starships in prime condition, but quickly grew bored. The Iwo Jima saw heavy action in the Dominion War, relieving Matt's boredom and testing his improvisational skills to the limit when the stardrive section of the ship was lost during a surprise Breen raid. Collins, the senior surviving engineer, jury rigged a solar sail to power life-support and the impulse engines until Starfleet reinforcements arrived.

Upon return to Federation territory, Matt transferred to Starbase 74 and found his calling, designing and building M/ARA systems for starships, contributing new ideas to the building of the new ships themselves often, knowing what worked and what didn't work in combat and the real world.

After eleven years at Starbase 74, Matt resigned his commission to take a position as a PMC engineer/commando with Nebula Gold Security Group's Team One. matt finally found a home for his engineering talents as a project designer for Holbridge Industries Shipyards and as a combat engineer in Team One.

After several years with NGSC, Collins put in a request to rejoin the Corps and serve as Starbase 900's Chief Engineer.
