Bits of snowy fur also come forth from the insides of his ears, joining along with the projections of long whiskers from his muzzle and eyebrows.

Piercing blue eyes once more seem to have the same feline theme as the rest of his features. He has a large frame from which a long tail juts out the back, which has to be redirected through a slot in his uniform. Due to the shape of his foot-paws, it can be difficult for him to fit into regulation Starfleet boots. He notably wears a silver clan symbol around his neck, whenever so permitted to do so.

Personality & Traits

General Overview When it comes to issues of his clan, his spirituality and his physical dwelling it seems that N'Riss is an extremely private individual. This, however, comes from the fact that Caitians seldom discuss these issues with those outside of their blood relatives and it would be considered extremely rude to ask one about these things. He tends to be rather polite and professional when it comes to different things, and often possesses an academic or theoretical understanding of concepts owing to the fact that he throws himself into his job. As one might expect, rather than making facial expressions he illustrates his emotions through movements of his ears and tail as well as making noises.
Strengths & Weaknesses Due to his felinoid physiology, N'Ress has extremely well developed hearing and eyesight. He's a natural climber with dense musculature, and he can rely on his fangs and claws as though they were tools. Indeed, he starts his days by brushing these claws against a pad in order to keep them in good shape. He can leap and run in manners that would not be possible for those with a more humanoid physique.

On the other hand (or perhaps paw), his loyalty is almost to a fault. He tends to be extremely loyal to those he works with, as well as his clan, and that would potentially mean following along with a bad plan unquestioningly because someone close to him suggested it. Homesickness can be endemic among Caitians, and if he's loyal to a fault then one might say that he's nostalgic to a fault as well. More on the physical side of things, any injury to his tail would severely limit his balance, and if his whiskers were to be removed he would lack depth perception to a great deal. Getting stuck behind something as a result of not knowing how wide it were would be excruciatingly embarrassing.
Ambitions Having finished up his Masters of Science (MSc) diploma in space studies while he was at Starfleet Academy, N'Ress has seen to it that he was declared a Candidate of Philosophy in the field. He wants to finish up his advanced degree education while continuing to work in Starfleet.
Hobbies & Interests N'Ress studies a traditional Caitian martial art, and seems to keep himself occupied with many spiritual pursuits but seldom mentions these for reasons associated with his usual predilection for privacy in such matters. Publicly he plays tri-dimensional chess and performs music on the ocarina. While he can speak both his native tongue as well as Federation standard, N'Ress has notable artifacts of that native language when speaking to many individuals. He often purrs while speaking, and can caterwaul or hiss if made uncomfortable. These noises additionally serve to illustrate his mood while communicating with someone.

Personal History Growing up on a planet orbiting the 15 Lyncis star system, N'Ress was like many Caitians in that he grow up close to home. Homes, especially their physical plant, is particularly important in his civilization's culture and that was especially so considering his fur coloration. Since the original Caitian homeworld is quite tropical, many Caitians have colored fur patterns designed to act as camouflage in jungle environments.

Only at the extreme poles, where the weather is considerably colder, were there historically native populations showing snow-camouflage patterns. His clan is descended from these populations, and even though he grew up on a habitat on Rea and not on Ferasa-Cait, his clan continued to use the traditional snowflake symbol to illustrate their heritage.

N'Ress continues to wear this symbol even today. Regardless of his unique heritage he was always taught not to make use of it as a leveraging point, since doing so is considered dishonorable and Caitians feel relying on one's clan history to get what they want will ultimately make them lazy.

As a result of this upbringing he was taught to work extremely hard toward his goals. The perseverance that's taught from basic survival skills translates well to the professional world, and he made sure that he was always able to keep his grades up so to speak. Eventually he received an invitation to study at the L'lura on Ferasa-Cait.

The L'lura is an institute that hosts Agra'nn Catian elders and it is there that they dispense knowledge to willing students. While not necessarily comparable to education elsewhere in the Federation, this was deemed to be above and beyond a normal four-year college education, and his transfer to Starfleet Academy was approved in a few years.

While at the Academy he applied for a Masters program in space studies and completed it two years later. While he certainly made a name for himself in terms of throwing himself head first into his studies, he unfortunately also made a name for himself in terms of always defending and standing by his classmates no matter what. These two traits would stay with him for much of his career.

Due to his unique education and application to a Masters program, N'Riss was required to sign onto a relatively long stint in Starfleet. While he hadn't initially intended to make a full career out of Starfleet, he ended up allowing himself to be transferred to an Air Tram unit as an operator. In addition he served on various other small craft such as work bees, Sphinx-class and S-series pods.

After spending a short stint as an operator aboard an SW-21 Warp Shuttle, he was reassigned as a flight controller aboard the refit Saladin-class USS Xerxes. Once again a fierce loyalty had a tendency to typify his service in these capacities.

Due to personnel needs, N'Riss was reassigned to the Antos sector but it was certainly difficult for him to give up his existing position. Still, the opportunity to work in such a mysterious area was a strong pull to someone with his experience in the field of space studies.

During the Dominion War of 2373-2375, N'Riss was offered the job of Assistant Crewmaster onboard the Galaxy-class USS Pequod. Though the position was outside of his usual level of expertise, it was still in the Command Division he'd worked in and his cooperative nature was extremely well liked.

Regardless, he jumped at the opportunity to join the crew of the scout ship USS Vizier in 2376, acting as flight controller. The small vessel initially encountered the Borg during that year and his quick actions and feline reflexes proved extremely useful in the cockpit-like bridge of the scout. In order to stay aboard the vessel as long as he could he actually repeatedly turned down promotions, as he enjoyed the work of being a navigator in that sort of environment.

Needless to say, when he could no longer reject these things any more it was a little difficult for him because of the overwhelming nature of life aboard such a large facility as Starbase 900, but his cooperative and curious nature has served him well in this capacity. Even though he comes from a certain background of regality, he never loved life more than when he was aboard the Vizier and hopes to cultivate that same sort of familial connection aboard his new assignment.
