Mission: Further Challenges
Brother Spencer frowned at the report he was reading. Then he glared at the messenger. "They killed him!?" He stood. "That's... there was nothing in our research indicating they would do so! They're supposed to be a peaceful, value every life type of society! How could they kill him!?"
The messenger shrugged. He had no clue. What he did know was that when Spencer got testy it was time to go. He began to edge towards the door. “Brother Antonio has asked to see you. He said it was urgent.” With that, he turned and all but ran through the door.
"Rodent," Spencer cursed the young man. Then hit a button on his desk, summoning Antonio to him. When the man arrived, he said, "Adrian failed, as you know. We need not worry about removing him, though, as it appears that Starfleet did that for us," he tossed the report across the desk to Antonio. "Additionally, it seems that our Riley plan has also failed. He failed to kill the Borg."
“I know,” Antonio answered. “I received word this morning that she survived. Something went wrong with Andor’s programming. Riley was supposed to take the Borg alone, then go deal with the Cranes’ son. Obviously that didn’t happen. When the attack was foiled, it shorted out the rest. There will be traces in his mind, of course, but he is no longer a danger to them. I suspect they will return him to his normal life, or what’s left of it.”
"Not much is left, it seems," Spencer sounded almost remorseful. Perhaps, however, the remorse was simply due to the fact that they hadn't completed the task. "We focus on the remainder of the discovery team, then. Either them or the man who is pushing the investigation forward."
“I am considering the best course and will decide by tonight. This investigation, tell me what you know since you have been monitoring it?” Antonio paused in his pacing to face Spencer.
"Two Lieutenants are jointly investigating Riley's attempt on the Borg. So far, they are aware Crane was also a target and that the thing that links them all is the Iconian stone," Spencer glowered. "It would seem that our efforts to prevent the discovery may actually be spurring them on to make the discovery."
“An acceptable risk and one we knew going in,” Antonio answered. “However, it would seem that a revision of our methods is in order. In the meantime, I want two sent to Charu. They are to stay out of sight of the colony and to make sure that everything is as it should be in that area. Make sure there are no mistakes as with Andor.”
"I'll make sure Andor makes no further mistakes," Spence said. "Two brothers to Charu, understood. They'll be there within the day. Anything else?"
“No. I will find you tonight and we’ll discuss what happens from here. It might be time for you and I to visit this station.” Antonio rested his hand on the table that stood before Spencer. “You can give me Andor’s status tonight.”
"The Station's head, an Admiral Wegener, is leaving on a ship, the Hammond. Visiting the Station while he's away may be a good idea; the security may not be as tight."
“Agreed. I’ll make the arrangements, you go deal with Andor.” Antonio nodded. “I’ll see you after dinner.”
"Very well, Brother," Spencer put his hands together in front of him and bowed slightly to Antonio.
Antonio returned the gesture, and vanished back through the doors.
