Tributes or Volunteers?
Posted on Wed Jan 16th, 2013 @ 7:34pm by Lieutenant Riley Sukotav & Commander Anthony Davis & Lieutenant Bryce Kendrick
Mission:
The Struggle Within
Location: USS Hammond, Conference Room
Timeline: SB 900, After "plan comes together"
Anthony had just got out of the meeting with the command of the station and several science officers. The choice was for every man, women, and child to volunteer for this mission. Considering the personal risk and involvement of his crew already, it seemed wise for Anthony to discuss things with his two senior officers that had made it to the station this far.
"Lieutenants Kendrick and Sukotav report to the conference room." Anthony said after arriving there himself. He looked around and went to the replicator. He got himself a coffee with enough cream and sugar that it was more so that than coffee. With that Anthony went straight to the head seat of the table and started pulling up charts and reports while waiting.
A few minutes later, Riley hurried into the conference room, several padds in hand as usual. "Commander Davis." He deposited the padds on the table and moved over to request water from the replicator. "Lt. Kendrick is on his way."
Within moments, Bryce arrived and awaited the discussion.
"Thank you Lieutenant," Davis responded and then gave a nod to the entering Lieutenant, "I brought you all in regarding our mission. I know Lieutenant Riley has been instrumental in its planning, but this mission is one-hundred percent volunteer. So let me give you the details, the possibilities, and then ask you a simple question." With that Anthony went into the full details and plans for the mission. It took a better part of thirty minutes with slight interjections from Riley about things that Anthony was a little rusty on.
"So you know we may possibly not make it, we may not make it back, the whole thing may not work, and so on and such forth. You give us a possibility and it may be possible that it could happen. However, before this goes forward, I want you to know that by no means are you being ordered to do this. Should you wish to do this, it will be because you volunteered for the mission. So what say you?" Anthony said looking first to Riley. He knew the science officer was on board already, but he was going to hope to use this confidence from him to ensure that his chief of security stayed around as well.
Riley nodded. "Absolutely, sir. There is a risk, yes, but that's something we know when we enter the Fleet. In this particular instance, my specialty is needed. There was no other choice."
"All in," Bryce said, "for personal reasons, but that should be good enough." The fact that his uncle was one of those trapped on the other side made up his mind for him.
Riley handed over a padd to Davis. "There's the updated list of volunteers, sir. I'll have Ensign Bren report once we finish here so that we can get started."
"Good to hear. I am glad our staff will be sticking together. I will inform the station that you have both elected to stay aboard. Please prepare your departments and be ready for new volunteers to be joining the ship in the coming hours. If there are no questions you are both dismissed," Anthony said as he nodded to both of them awaiting any questions or for them to leave.
With no questions, Bryce stood and nodded to Davis and Sukotav before leaving to the bridge. Riley stood as well. "I'll send word once science is ready to go."
