Home to a Federation colony destroyed by a pirate group affiliated with so-called "rogue elements" of the [[Klingon Empire]] during the [[Omega Crisis of 2383]].  Warning of the imminent attack came from the U.S.S. ''Excelsior'', then busy at New Victoria, and the U.S.S. ''Shadow'' was dispatched at dangerously high warp speeds in hopes of reaching Nu Lambda in time to stop the raid.  Instead, the ''Shadow'' arrived just in time for Commodore Jonathan Sumpter to watch what transpired.  Instead of staging a raid, the pirate forces simply deployed a high-yield metreon-based weapon in the atmosphere, laying west to the planet and killing all of the tens of thousands of Federation colonists.

Though still habitable, Nu Lambda IV has been abandoned for the foreseeable future.
