Four hours. Four hours to Eden. Four hours standing between him and his heart's desire...both of his desires. And so he paced. Deck by deck, end to end Suresh paced. Naral watched but did not interrupt. At this point, interrupting Suresh's orbit might cause him to spin out of control altogether. Suresh ignored them all.
Finally he settled in his quarters with a muttered order to call him if Li's ship was sighted. It should be simple...not like there was a fleet of ships aiming for Eden. Now, he sat in his quarters, examining the sighting of Li and Oz at Apollo Bay. Over and over, he replayed the almost-encounter. Oz's hair had grown out, he noticed. She looked....softer somehow, happier. He supposed that life with that club owner was good and was, perhaps, smoothing down her sharp edges.
The picture shifted to Li. Unlike Oz, Li looked far more serious. Suresh wondered why. He had seen such passion in her eyes, passion she had refused to acknowledge to him or to herself. But Suresh knew, had sensed it deep within her. Perhaps she missed him and thus was unhappy. The thought sent fire racing through him, desire white hot, the flames stirred just by the sight of her. Now she was within reach, away from the station, away from that ass Wegener, away from her husband who had far too much control over her. And she was in enemy territory where one word from him would mean her death. But he would keep her safe, protect her and she would love him for it. Or love him even more, he mentally corrected.
"Soon, my love, there will be no reason to hold back. I will set you free."
His smile lingered as he considered the prospect. The thoughts made his fingers itch to touch her again. So close. Once they landed, it would be time to put his plans into action. The other Suresh crossed his mind and he growled aloud. Seyla was of the opinion that Li liked this other version and the thought brought with it a rage that clouded his vision. Surely, that one was nothing but a substitute and it proved to Suresh just how much she missed him. Of course, that was it. His breathing slowed as the tension began to ebb within him.
He closed his eyes and gave himself up to memories of the euphoria she always roused in him. Soon enough she'd have the real thing, not a substitute.
Soon enough, life would be absolutely perfect.
