Night Watchmen

Posted on Mon Jul 13th, 2015 @ 12:20am by Lieutenant Commander William Harding M.D. & Seyla

Mission: Further Challenges
Location: Dr. Harding's Quarters

Returning to Harding's quarters, Seyla was exhausted. The night had been a difficult one. She slipped inside and wasn't surprised to find just one light on; it had become Will's habit to leave it on so she wouldn't stumble in the dark. What she was surprised by was Will, sitting in his favorite leather chair. "Darling, whyever are you awake?", she purred and went to him to kiss his cheek.

“I was on call tonight and an emergency case came in.” Will rubbed his tired eyes and reached out for Seyla, settling her in his lap. “A young engineering officer named Reva. She was, to borrow a phrase from Jackson, seriously fucked up.”

Seyla brushed a finger along his hairline and kissed his temple. "I know. I'm glad you're the one who put her right. How badly hurt was she?"

Will gave her a rundown of Reva’s injuries and then shook his head. “She’s damn lucky she didn’t lose that eye. A millimeter or two over and she would have. I didn’t tell her it was that close. She’s too young to have to deal with that. Darwin was in to question her and he told me something interesting about this particular case.”

Snuggling against him, she purred, "The girl likes to play with fire. What did Darwin tell you?" She was, at the moment, exceptionally glad he was human without a lick of telepathy.

“I gathered that, yes, based on where she was found. However,” he paused and shifted Seyla so he could see her face, “he says she’s been spending a lot of time down below with you.”

"Oh." She frowned slightly. "Yes, she has. She never knew her Orion mother. Since I know quite a bit, I've been filling her in. Her mother is a... fascinating Orion, Will! She should know about her." Seyla let her pheromones begin to build in the air.

Will caught the scent and frowned for a moment. “How much does Darwin know about us?”

"He knows... everything, Will," she answered. "He didn't tell you that?"

“It didn’t come up, we had other things to consider,” Will answered. “Like the fact that he’s worried about Reva. He also mentioned an incident where she was running around the Promenade laced with pheromones. How did that happen?”

She paused. "Ah... I used a hair ointment on her that I forgot I had laced with pheromones. She only saw her boyfriend and Suresh that night. From what she told me, it put things in motion that night that's made all four of them happy."

Will sighed aloud. “Perhaps it did but it seems to have set several other things in motion as well. This young woman doesn’t have your sophistication or street smarts, Seyla. She’s playing in a world that you and the rest down there know is serious business. For her sake, Sey, get some sense into her head and meet her up above if you must. I don’t want to see her in the shape she was in tonight again.”

"I have security watching her, but... that close to a turbolift? They must have slacked off." She shrugged, "I'll see to it they don't do that again."

“Be aware, Sey, that Darwin seems to be getting close to the end of his patience with this. I also don’t want you becoming the bad guy in all this, whether truly or by mistaken impression.” He managed a smile finally. “Reva may be entertaining but she isn’t you.”

"With what, dear? I'm just teaching her things she should already know, things she would have been taught by her mother." She kissed him. "It's her problems with Suresh that are causing problems like this one tonight."

Will decided not to mention that Darwin considered her a suspect. In fact, if Darwin knew about his relationship with Seyla, why mention it to Will himself? He shook his head to clear the thoughts away.

“Then teach her up here, where she is safe and not relying on others to watch her back...others who failed her this time. You and Suresh are not the only dangerous things down there after all.”

"I am not dangerous," she spoke sharply, "The only time my people ever have to see yours is when a client takes things farther than agreed or, before Suresh lost his mind, when he'd take his anger and frustration out on them. It looks like that's just what he's back to doing. Only he's angry with a little Fleet girl this time. Granted, he runs into her more often because I've let her feel safe in an area where she shouldn't be." She softened. "I'll be more careful about where I see her, Will."

“Thank you.” Finally he relaxed and laughed lightly. “You are wrong, my darling. You can be most dangerous...especially to a man’s good sense. That is a compliment by the way.”

"I know," she lightly kissed his nose, "just look how I've removed all of yours."

“I’m not complaining.” He raised her hand to his cheek and leaned into it. “It’s been a long night, Sey. Let’s give it up before it turns into fake sunrise?”

"I'll always give it up for you," she kissed him in a way that promised much more. Standing, she held out a hand, "Come on, let me relax you."

He took her hand and stood, walking through the dim light of the living room to their bedroom. He’d held off giving in to the scent that drifted around them but finally, he was in for the night and he did give in, letting the desire and the aggressiveness it brought take him over.
