Mission: Further Challenges

Jim, Sam, and Matt walked boldly into the Holbridge office suite, striding with a purpose past the stunned receptionist, who merely opened the door to Woodward Kell's office. Jim walked over to the man, who had started to rise from his seat and flung him to the floor.

"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!?!?" Kell demanded.

"The meaning is,you have been voted outta office, bub!" Sam smiled, not moving to help the fallen man.

"Nice try, Elliott, but only a majority vote from the Board can get me out!"

"Matt, dazzle the man!" Jim's grin was wide as the young engineer-turned mercenary produced a padd and presented it to the angry Kell.

Kell examined the padd, then calmly placed it on the desk. "I guess that's it then." Without warning, Kell kicked Holbridge in the gut and swung a right cross at Collins, who ducked left and connected with a haymaker to the chin that knocked Kell goofy. With a groan, the would-be CEO of Holbridge Industries slid to the floor.

Sam helped Jim to his feet, looking at Kell. "What do we do with him, boss?"

"Get him outta this suite and give him to station security.. He's an arms smuggler who's wanted in sixteen systems in the Alpha Quadrant."

"You bet!" Matt jerked Kell to his feet and hustled him from the room, followed by Sam and leaving Jim Holbridge alone with his thoughts.

Tricia, what the hell am I going to do? he asked himself. Our son is grown, our daughter is gonna be a teenager soon...God help me! I can't do this alone! Jim sat down at his desk, put his head on the oak table and cried loudly.

SIX HOURS LATER

Jordan Holbridge sat on the couch with his father, looking at a picture of his mom. "Hard to believe she's gone."

"Yeah, I know what you mean," Jim said quietly. "I keep thinking she's gonna walk through the doors any minute saying 'April Fool's!'" Jim tried to smile, his eyes tearing up again. "I loved her very much, son."

"Me too, Dad." JD sniffled. "When's Kimmy comin home?"

"She's gonna stay planet-side with DeLora for a bit. You stay here and keep the place up. I have to go back to earth and tell Grandma Addie that her daughter is d...dead...."

JD put his hand on his dad's shoulder and wept along with his father.
