Diplomat's Aide

The Diplomat's Aide assists the Chief Diplomatic Officer whenever and however needed. The Aide is an enlisted officer who has training in the diplomatic field, and can do the job of a regular diplomatic officer if needed.

Ambassador

An Ambassador holds a title more than a mere billet. Recognized by the Federation Council as someone with the credentials to act as its representative in the face of other cultures, s/he is sanctioned with the task of carrying out the interests of the Federation through the act of Diplomacy. Ambassadors are often stationed on foreign/alien worlds or facilities, to be closely in contact with that particular Government. However, they can be assigned, usually temporary, aboard a Starfleet vessel/base.

Ambassadors are usually retired and highly experienced Starfleet personnel, and therefore very rarely hold any active rank in Starfleet, even though there is no specific restriction against this case. Due to the nature of the role, the title can be assigned temporarily by the Federation Council to any chosen high ranking officer, if the need for an official sanctioning of a political act or a form of treaty should arise where no other Diplomatic envoy is present.
