Skareen

Race native to planet Hakera in the [[Star Desert]].  Militaristic and widely feared throughout the Star Desert, the Skareen are chiefly known at present as constructors of [[The Arch|The Arches]].  Their once-powerful empire, bent on galactic domination, was stopped on the eve of breakthrough by force or forces now lost to history.  Skareen society collapsed inwards on itself.  First restricted to the Core Worlds, then appearing to die out entirely, the Skareen have not heard from for over two hundred years.  Nonetheless, the fear of the Skareen persists throughout the region and the neighboring Jathlin Arm, as the memory of so many enslaved worlds cannot be blotted out too easily.
