Family
- Father: Jeffrey Leroy
- Mother: Amanda Leroy
General Description & Personality Overview
Patrick is a young man of fair complexion and average height and weight, well-proportioned and physically fit, even if not overtly muscular, due to sporting activity regularly performed. His hair is a dark brown hue and wavy if left on its own, but he keeps it short as per Starfleet standards. His green eyes often betray, to those bent on observing, a warm spirit contrasting with the “professional coldness” he uses in almost every social relationship.
Patrick comes from a family of strong traditions and being his parents’ only son he had to take over the ‘family burden’ from a very young age… Things like: “Members of the Leroy family have always been respected” or “Every Leroy has reached a great achievement in his life” have been constantly in his ears since he’s been able to speak the first words. Father stressed this family mythos repeatedly putting great expectations on Patrick’s future life and career and thus spoiling the best period one can have in life: carefree young age.
Growing up under father’s high standards Patrick has become methodical and relentless in pursuing his objectives.
Torn between Engineering and Science branches, when time for the Academy came he finally chose Science for his Starfleet career but he never lost interest for science’s practical applications and can often be seen nosing around in the Engineering department.
Aloof and reserved in duty, he’s quite the loner while working, often straining himself beyond the normal shift hours to get grasp of a solution to a problem. Sometimes so absorbed in the task at hand to fail to share info and progress with the team getting, in some cases, a mistaken reputation for keeping knowledge to himself to further personal advancement. However, he can be warm and pleasant with those he considers his close friends In the end he’s a well-mannered guy who’s early contact with real life has developed his cynical side more than the other aspects of his personality (“I haven’t believed in faeries since my sixth birthday”)
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths: Reliable, when given a task he deals with it to the best of his efforts. Rational, analytical and when under pressure he’s able to keep his nerves. Strongly attuned to Federation ideals of exploration and scientific discovery his best field of knowledge is Physical Science (with Planetary specialties) and Space Science with a knack for Chemistry.
Weaknesses: Too much cold efficiency and cynicism sometimes become a hindrance in his getting along with others with regards to personal matters.
Ambitions
Patrick strives to make a name for himself and become an important and respected member of Starfleet and of the community. His long-term dream is one to have the name of Leroy stand to the side of other great names of old like Zefram Cochrane, Richard Daystrom or even Dr. Noonien Soong, thus fulfilling also the expectations that the family has put on him. To that end he’s determined to work hard and follow the rules.
An unheeded whisper, though, from a secluded corner of his mind would rather have him put up with fatherly expectations and be content with far less, and be happier, enjoying life for what it gives - a thing he’s been unable to fully realize yet.
Hobbies & Interests
Patrick is an accomplished sportsman of sorts and, though able to compete in many disciplines, he favours swimming above all others. Apart from the physical activity Patrick enjoys ancient literature (Shakespeare being the preferred one) and, from time to time, the soft tunes played on a Spanish guitar.
Personal History
Patrick Francis Leroy was born on Earth in the autumn 2357. His father Jeffrey, a civil engineer of some renown and strongly attached to family tradition, went to great lengths to make sure his son had the best instruction trying to prepare him for a future successful life. This opened for young Patrick a road made of rigid tutors, prestigious schools and hard study, until the time came for Academy.
His parents were surprised with his choice to undertake a career in Starfleet but they didn’t obstruct him in any way. To them a ‘brilliant’ career in Starfleet was as good as anywhere else.
The Academy years were surely happier for him, away from a demanding family he made some friends and had a good time. His self-discipline in the end allowed him to get High Honors graduation and opened a life of discovery and adventure.
Patrick’s tours of duty have been quiet so far, apart from a mild disciplinary measure filed against him in 2377 when, during a shore leave, he and some crewmates incited a pair of hostile Nausicaans. Using preposterous motivation the Nausicaans forced a challenge to the death on a fellow crewmember. Patrick got hold of some medical supplies and hastily mixed a chemical compound that he managed to inject into the challenging Nausicaan incapacitating him for good. The situation has never been fully clarified and his superiors, although aware that he’d probably saved a comrade from certain death, couldn’t just let him get away with it.
After completion of his last tour on the Vladivostok, he is currently on Starbase 900 awaiting assignment on the USS Berkeley.
