Name | Divitian Republic |
Homeworld | Divitia |
Primary Language | Divitian |
Affiliation | Perenalthorias Union of Commonwealths |
Government | Republic |
Current Leader | President Atanatar |
Warp Capable | Yes |
Population | 6.2 billion |
The Divitian Republic is the most economically and military powerful member state of the Perenalthorias Union of Commonwealths. With over fifty worlds colonized under the Divitian banner, innumerable mining and resource-gathering facilities set up at strategic points throughout their territory, and a fleet of impressive size and armament, it is generally agreed that the Divitians hold military, territorial, and economic superiority above all other members of the Union.

Physical Profile
Physiologically, Divitians are both taller than most humans and somewhat more slender. Their outer skin, an evolved form of what was an insectoid exoskeleton years before the planet's climate changed, is a shimmery dark blue-purple-green (the image provided does not do them justice). Their black hair grows mostly only in a strip down the center of their heads. Because their wold was once much darker and colder, Divitians also have mostly in-set, flattened features, as well as remarkably large black eyes, which, surprisingly, are not compound.
Divitian History and the Union
After attaining warp drive in the late twenty-second century, almost seventy years after their first contact with the Ialnalyn, the modest Divitians surged forward with a determination to be the best they could be in the local stellar community. Through a combination of optimism, hard work, high ideals, and an enormous amount of good luck, they found themselves on top of the local food chain. They are hardly the oldest member state in the Union (with the Union being founded at least two centuries before), but they are currently the most influential--leading to enormous resentment on the part of their democratic colleagues on the Perenalthorias Council. Those democracies charge Divitia with aggressive militarism and imperialism; Divitians hold the other nations (especially the Judaat) largely in friendly contempt, thinking of them as lazy, pompous, but lovable dandies. It is not surprising, then, that, despite its ammassed power, Divitia was not granted a veto on the Perenalthorias Council until about fifty years ago, when it joined a war at a critical moment and directly acted to save most of the other member states. Divitia is one of only a handful of races in the dozens of member states to have veto power, and attained its veto power faster than any other race in Perenalthorias history.
Present Day
Today, the Divitians live in a paradise akin to that found on the core worlds of the Federation, though, here, the profit motive continues to play a large role in day-to-day life. Divitians are genius capitalists. Because the Union does not prohibit first contact missions with pre-warp and pre-industrial races (though the issue continues to be debated), the Divitians have felt free to introduce some seventy-some primitive, pre-warp cultures to the interstellar community. This being done, the Divitians move in and begin building modern infrastructure, distributing modern medicines, and generally insinuating itself into all parts of the race's culture. Those races typically become associate members of the Union--and close, permanent, and extremely willing trading partners with Divitia. The Judaat have occasionally decried this as bloody imperialism without the guns; the Divitians call it "civilization welfare," and ask the Judaat how many primitives have to die of infectious disease just because their civilization hasn't developed the technology to cure them yet?
As mentioned before, the Divitians hold, in addition to their own homeworld of Divitia, some fifty different M-class colony worlds of various populations (some quite large), a formidable military force, a Perenalthorias Council veto, and close developmental ties with scores of smaller and vulnerable states.
Refugee Immigration Problem
The Divitians have suffered an immigration problem due to the influx of Rheger Tuhg refugees. After admitting what it declared to be the maximum possible number of refugees onto its home shores, the Divitian homeworld government officially closed its borders to Tuhg refugees. As the Tuhg continued to pour in, immigration crackdown has become a higher and higher political priority, and Tuhg confrontations with police have been intense. There have been reports in isolated areas of local law enforcement units exterminating entire illegal Tuhg settlements, and those reports have since been confirmed by the Excelsior. Since the sudden turn of events in the Thanatoksin conflict, however, the immigration pressure is expected to ease up in the near future.
Ion Wavefront Disaster
In June 2384, Divitia's atmosphere was struck by a massive ion wavefront that left tens of thousands dead and devastated about one-quarter of the planet. The disaster was of unparalleled scale, and, though damage and casualties were kept to a minimum by Divitian capability and loyalty, the damage to the homeworld remains immense. It has been theorized that the wavefront may not have been a natural event, either, instead having been brought on accidentally in the course of delicate power systems testing going on in Divitia's arctic circle at the time of the wavefront, and those claims are still being investigated. Relief rushed in from all corners of the Union until President Atanatar was able to organize a coordinated relief effort relying entirely on the Republic's fifty worlds.
Contact History
- In June 2384, after picking up a distress call, the USS Excelsior participated in the initial Divitian relief effort following the ion wavefront disaster. It remained in orbit for a week, assisting with medical aid, running missions to prevent further "aftershock" disasters, and rebuilding infrastructure until relieved by Divitian aid vessels. During that time, the Excelsior crew worked closely with the Thanatoksin, who were also present during the relief efforf.
