In the Starfleet Marine Corps, Private only refers to the lowest enlisted rank, just below Private First Class. A Marine Corps Private wears one chevron like the Private First Class but it is a copper color instead of the normal silver color. Most new, non-officer Marines begin their military career as a private. This rank is equivalent to Crewman Recruit.
