Louie sat at his desk still, entertaining Little Kahuna, one of Iggy's spiderlings. He'd read the one report to him, then turned to the baseball standings. It was playoff season and Louie was an avid baseball fan. Kahuna was quick and before long had picked up several important terms, such as strike out and home run. The irony of that wasn't lost on Louie and he chuckled.
"You'll be a real heart throb someday for someone," he laughed. "Or something."
"Funny, I said the same thing about you." Leto appeared in Louie's open door. "Hey sailor."
Louie looked up, confused. He didn't recognize the woman who stood there, but he certainly knew her voice. Then Li's words came back to him about Nenita and how she'd changed.
"Nenita?" he asked. "Is that you?"
"You bet, honey." Leto strolled in, rested her hands on the desk and leaned across to kiss Louie's cheek. "But it's Leto now. Long story, which I can tell you anytime." She smiled slowly. "You look as yummy as you did in Chile all those years ago."
"I'd say the same of you but wow, you look...different. Amazing but different." He rose and stepped out from behind his desk and hugged her tight. "It's so good to see you. Li told me you were here but only that you'd changed. She didn't explain." He laughed once more as Kahuna peeked over his shoulder. "May I introduce Kahuna? He's one of Iggy's offspring.
The small spiderling raised his front leg and waved it slightly at Leto. Home run, Louie.
Leto raised her eyebrows and looked at Louie, who turned a deep red.
"Just what have you been telling him?" she asked.
"Nothing, I swear. I was reading him the baseball scores. The spiderlings are just learning to communicate you see," Louie answered.
"Yeah, I see." Leto bit back a laugh. "Don't corrupt the children Louie, or Iggy will have your ass. Metaphorically speaking that is."
Ass, Kahuna repeated.
Louie rolled his eyes. "Way to go, slugger."
"Don't repeat that, Kahuna," Louie instructed.
Are you striking out?
Louie bit back a curse as Leto laughed. "No, kiddo. She's an old friend. Well she's not old, I mean I've known her for a long time."
"How about we get this little one home and I'll buy you a drink or three?" Leto smiled at Louie. "We'll get caught up and I'll tell you that story."
"Sounds good." Louie checked to make sure Kahuna was secure on his shoulder, then turned off the lights and locked his door. "Ready when you are."
Score! Kahuna bounced up and down on Louie's shoulder.
Leto patted Louie's cheek. "You are in so much trouble."
"Won't be the first time," Louie answered.
