Confession Of An Orion

Mission: Further Challenges
Location: Riley's Quarters

After her Beta shift, Reva had changed into a pair of jeans and a simple T-shirt and had tied her hair into a low ponytail. Now she stood in front of Riley's door, rocking from heel to toe, as she waited for him to answer. When he did, she looked at him contritely and asked, "Could I come in, Rye?"

“Always.” He smiled and took her hand, pulling her inside. “Are you okay? We were all a little worried when no one could find you last night.” He pulled her close for a kiss. “Especially me.”

She resisted, reluctantly, and said, "I know, and I'm really sorry. Darwin told me you were worried. Um... could we sit?"

“Alright.” He frowned a moment as the conflicting emotions of Reva wrapped around him. He led the way to the sofa and sat down. “So what’s up? You feel like something's wrong.” He searched her eyes, his own expression uncertain.

"Rye... I like you," she started, "Last night, though, I spent the night with another man."

Riley pursed his lips a moment, unsure how he felt about that. It wasn’t the sex. For their species, it wasn’t a big deal. What bothered him was why she wanted to do that. “Can I ask why?”

She had to think about that. "Um.... I'm not sure, Rye. I... At Iapetus, two guys showed up and tried to haul me off. Marcus was there and fought one of them, then...," she talked through her reasoning, "We ended up at Seyla's and then in her bed. I wanted to know what she felt like, what her life must be like." She looked at Riley. "That's why. Curiosity."

“Nothing more?” He considered her words and had to conclude that this was Reva, her being curious made perfect sense. “Now that you’ve tried it, did it satisfy that curiosity? Or answer your question?”

"It did. Well, somewhat. Seyla's bed is incredible; I wish we could make love in it."

Riley had to laugh at that and finally he reached out to touch her cheek. “Perhaps you should ask her then.” He paused, looking back at her and hoping she understood that no explosion was imminent. “Reva, my darling woman, how long have I known you?”

"A few months?" She could read him as he touched her. "You're okay?" She grinned, "I could totally ask Seyla. She doesn't seem to stay there during the night."

“I am okay. You said it yourself, among our kind, sex isn’t such a big thing. And in the time we’ve been together, I’ve come to know you inside and out. I know what a free spirit you are and how bright the curiosity in you burns. It’s one of the things I love about you. One of the many things. Maybe I hope that since you’ve tested your theory, the draw it has for you has lessened and that energy will be directed...elsewhere?” He smiled once more.

"Elsewhere, huh? Like to you?" She smiled at him and leaned in to kiss him. "I knew I liked you for a reason, Rye."

“Yes, like me. But promise me something? Next time you get a wild urge like that, call so someone knows where you are? That way we don’t worry unless we need to. Deal?” He hooked his finger in the neck of her shirt and pulled her closer.

"I promise," she said. "Especially since then Darwin won't feel the need to lecture me." She smiled. "As for that energy? Wanna help me burn some of it off?"

“I’d love to. Will you stay tonight? Nowhere to go? No Six to track down?” he asked.

"No. I'm all yours, Riley," she said. "Do you work in the morning?"

“I do. Speaking of Six, there’s something she’s been working on that she wants to pull me in on. I got word from her this afternoon. It’s strange, Reva. It sounded like she’s turning over the project to me. I don’t know what it is but I guess I’ll find out tomorrow.”

"Turning a project over to you? Why? Is it the tablet she's been working on? She likes that project," she frowned as she looked at him. "She couldn't be sick, could she?"

“She didn’t seem to be when I saw her last, but you’ve seen her since then.” Riley leaned in to kiss Reva’s neck. “But that’s work and tomorrow. Tonight we have some energy to burn off...and dinner later.”

"Definitely. Six is an adult; she can wait till tomorrow." Reva kissed him back and then tried something Marcus had taught her the night before. It was quite a while before either Riley or Reva was interested in talking again.
