A Call for Help

Posted on Wed Jun 8th, 2011 @ 1:31pm by Admiral Ricky Wegener & Captain qeraQ'

Mission: In Our Time of Need
Location: SB900 Control Center

((OCC -- James, I hope you're okay with me using qeraQ' while you're LOA. I need to get this storyline going. ~~ Scott))

"Lieutenant, can you come to my office please?" Ricky said through the intercom.

Lieutenant (j.g.) Hope Beckman entered within moments with a blank data padd ready to take notes on what the Admiral may need. "Sir?" she said as she sat.

He had made it clear that she only really needed to stand on ceremony when others were present. Otherwise, she was pretty much free to come and go as she pleased, including not having to stand at attention, or stand in general. He'd even taken the time to provide her with a special chair of her own should there be a time when her services were needed along with other ranking personnel for note-taking.

He smiled briefly at her. "Send a communique to the task group commanders and have them check in. And I'd like to speak to Lieutenant Commander Kh'ali about our new friend from Enara Prime to check on the progress on making him a proper citizen of the Federation. Also, let the Professor know that her first batch of cadets will be arriving soon. Quite a few, if I'm not mistaken. She's going to have her hands full very soon."

She had finished the notes and looked up. "Will that be all, sir?"

"Not quite," he said. "Hope, you've been one hell of an aide for me the past few years. I've dragged you from posting to posting and you've been amazing."

"Sir, am I being transferred? It almost sounds like when people break up."

He chuckled. "No break up and no transfer," he said. "You are, however, getting something much, much worse."

Her eyes widened.

"You're being promoted to Lieutenant." He stood and presented her with a brand new pair of gold rank pips. "You definitely deserve it and I'm giving you a brand new matched set--yours have gotten a little worn."

She rolled her eyes. "Thank you, sir. I go appreciate it."

"Once you send those messages I want you to take two days off."

=^= qeraQ' to Admiral Wegener, you're needed in the Control Center. =^=

Ricky and Hope exchanged looks. "I'm on my way, Commander," he said, striding out of his office. Hope quickly changed her rank pips and followed along behind him. She was ever the nosy girl that way but it helped her keep track of what her boss was doing, what he needed or anything else.

"Admiral, you should take a look at this," qeraQ' said as Ricky and Hope walked into the Control Center.

A visual message appeared on one of the screens: The Divitian Republic sends her regards.

"Divitian Republic?" Ricky asked. "Aren't they part of the Perenalthorias Union?"

"They are," qeraQ' replied. "And quite an advanced race militarily and economically. They would be quite an adversary as they are as technologically advanced as the Federation."

"Ops, send this reply: Starbase 900 and the United Federation of Planets welcomes the opportunity to become better acquainted with the Divitian Republic. Would you like to open diplomatic talks aboard our station?"

The response came mere moments later: The Divitian Republic would be honored to attend formal talks. Our arrival is estimated at six of your standard hours.

"Send reply: We await your arrival. Please transmit any special requirements needed by your delegation. Rear Admiral Ricky Wegener."

Once he had relayed the message he turned to qeraQ'. "Commander, please ensure the staff attends to any special requirements and have the conference room cleaned meticulously. Oh, and get your dress uniform on. I want you at the meeting."

"Would you like me to alert Lieutenant Commander Kh'ali, Admiral?" a voice from behind him asked.

He turned to see Hope still there. "Please do so, Lieutenant," he said with a smile. "And I'm sorry, but your two days off may have to wait."

"I have no problem with that, sir," she said. "I'll prepare your offices as well, in case they ask for a private meeting."

"Thank you," he said and watched her whisk away, knowing full well that he had promoted the right person on the right day. And found it a bit sad that, at some point, she'd have to transfer away from him and he'd have to train someone else. Of course, she'd only have to transfer if she wanted to become flag staff.

"I'll see to the conference room, Admiral," qeraQ' said as he gave orders on the way out of the Control Center. No doubt also going to freshen up, if Klingons did that, and change to his dress uniform.

Ricky followed suit and quickly made his way to his own quarters.
